It’s that time of year again. This is about the third batch of morels that we have harvested this season. Not a lot, but enough for an enjoyable little snack. Lightly floured and sautéed in butter – there is nothing quite like them.
I am always amazed at these mysterious, little, woodland delicacies – how, primarily, they only grow in the wild, how they pop up to full maturity literally overnight, though never under the gaze of a curious eye, and how they are seemingly as transient as a spring storm over the Kansas plains.
Often while hunting morels, the words of the psalmist come to my mind, when he declared;
“O Lord, how manifold are your works!
In wisdom have you made them all…” Psalm 104:24
Indeed, in wisdom God made all that was made – even the curious…delectable…morel.
